My grandfather Algernon Newton, 1880-1968, was a British landscape painter and member of the Royal Academy of Arts. I was attracted to his paintings for their photographic nature and thus began this project to locate and photograph the scenes that Algernon painted. In some instances the scenes today are unrecognizable, while others haven’t changed at all. The painting is on the left, my photograph of the same scene and location on the right.
